Yes, there are several different blogs on the Internet. Not all of them are set up to make money. Today, we are going to look at the ones that actually have a chance to make money.
If you’ve been considering starting a blog but don’t know the steps to take, I’ve created a step-by-step tutorial just for you. This tutorial will show you how to start a blog on WordPress.
5 Types of Blogs To Start If You Want to Make Money
I am assuming that you’re starting a blog with the intention of turning it into a profitable business. Hopefully, you realize that it won’t happen overnight. It takes time to become a professional blogger and actually create a profitable blog.
However, if you’re willing to treat it like a business and stay persistent over time, it can become a profitable venture.
As a blogger, one of the most challenging things you’re going to run into is growing your blog. It takes time, but with hard work, you will slowly see it start to grow.
Regardless of the type of blog you start, you need to constantly write content on popular blog topics that will attract the right people to your blog.
#1 Business Blogs
Business bloggers are bloggers who blog for the purpose of their business. This could be a business they own or a business that they work for. Their main goal is to get more exposure for their business and get more leads.
Their content is going to be based on their business and industry. For instance, a natural pet supply business owner is going to write blog posts that their targetted audience wants to read.
Their blog content will consist of dog and flea tick, adult dog food, puppy dog food, dog food for dogs with allergies, cat food, wild bird seed and etc.
Successful Business Blog
The purpose of a business blogger is to get people to read their blog and subscribe to their email list. They then use their email list to market their products in hopes of turning their customers into a paying customer.
Examples of good business blogs:
Hubspot blog: Their goal is to help business owners succeed with inbound marketing and sales.
Copyblogger: Their mission is to teach people how to create great content online.
#2 Professional Blog
Professional bloggers are the ones who start their blogs with the full intention of making money online. They started their blog with the sole purpose of turning it into a full-time business.
These types of bloggers monetize their blog with display ads, affiliate marketing, creating information and digital products, and selling other people’s products for a commission.
More and more individuals are starting professional blogs because they realize that they can earn money from home.
Yes, it’s possible and many people have managed to do it.
Who Can Start A Professional Blog
If you have access to a computer and the Internet, then you can start one. Be sure to check out my tutorial to help you get your blog started.
Professional bloggers tend to focus on one blog or create several small niche blogs to generate an income. If you’re a brand new blogger, I recommend starting one because it takes a lot of work to grow it into a full-time business.
You need to realize that some blog niches have more potential than others. So make sure that you choose one that you can actually profit from.
Successful Professional Blog
Everyone’s definition of success will vary. If you are trying to make money with display ads, you’re going to need to focus on increasing your page views. The amount of money you make will depend on how much traffic you are able to get.
If you are selling digital products, you don’t necessarily need to focus on getting 100,000 pageviews. Instead, you will focus on growing your email list so you can turn your subscribers into customers.
There are literally several ways to make money from home. The professional blogger understands the importance of multiple streams of income. In fact, if we look at some of the examples you’ll see that they are monetizing their blog with more than one income stream.
Examples of pro bloggers:
Daily Blog Tips: They focus on the pro side of blogging to help you build a blog that makes money.
Blogtrepreneur: Get tips and advice to help you become an entrepreneur, use social media and make money online.
#3 Niche Blogs
Instead of creating an authority blog that covers a wide scope of topics. This type of blog focuses on a small narrow niche that caters to a smaller group of people.
A niche blogger could start a blog in Zojirushi bread maker recipes, shoulder pain relief exercises, Cat lovers and bacon recipes for the bacon lover.
Successful Niche Blog
Bloggers who have success with these types of blogs are the ones that pick a niche they are passionate about. Yes, you can do research on a topic if you don’t know anything about it.
But you’re more likely to enjoy the process if you enjoy the topic. It’s easier to write about a particular topic if you have some interest in it.
People who are able to share their own perspectives and personal point of views seem to do better than those who don’t. Readers who visit your weblog want to know a little bit about you, plus it’s a great way to differentiate yourself from all the other bloggers.
Examples of good niche blogs:
Totsfamily: A family oriented blog that focuses on Parenting kids, Food and DIY crafts.
CometCamper: A site dedicated to people that are passionate about living a minimalist lifestyle.
#4 Affiliate Blogs
Affiliate bloggers start a blog with the hopes of generating an income solely based on affiliate marketing. Their blog content consists of product reviews in hopes of getting their readers to buy through their affiliate link.
Whenever someone makes a purchase through their link, they earn a commission. These bloggers have no intention of creating their own digital products. Instead, they love being the middle man and not having to worry about dealing with customer support.
Successful Affiliate Blog
These bloggers are focused on providing amazing content that helps people see the value of the product they are reviewing. They are also focused on growing their email subscribers.
They understand the importance of an email list and work on gaining their subscribers’ trust. After all, they know that eventually, their email list will be the ones that buy the products that they recommend.
Examples of good affiliate blogs:
WireCutter: An affiliate site that reviews electronics, gadgets and consumer goods.
This Is Why I’m Broke: A site that focuses on weird, wacky and innovative things that people do not really need but wants to buy.
#5 Amazon Affiliate Blog
An Amazon affiliate blogger starts a blog with the intention of sending their visitors to Amazon.com to make a purchase. Even though the Amazon Associate program doesn’t have high commissions, some bloggers have been able to make a full-time income through their blog.
If you can drive enough traffic to your site and get people to click your links, you stand a good chance of making commissions. After all, Amazon is such a well-known and at the time of this writing, there are over 300 million active Amazon users.
Chances are if you start a blog in a niche with buyers intent, you stand a very good chance of making money with it.
Successful Amazon Affiliate Blog
This blogger focuses on creating content based on Amazon products. They understand that if they can get people to click through then Amazon will turn those people into buyers.
Plus Amazon has a 24-hour cookie in place. This means that if someone clicks your link and then buys something in the next 24 hours, you still get the credit. Only if they don’t clear out their cache.
Amazon has a ton of products that you can promote. So basically any niche can benefit from the Amazon Associates program.
Examples of good Amazon Affiliate Blogs:
Lucie List: A pregnancy survival guide for expecting mothers. Tips and information on how to deal with dealing with postpartum pain, buying overpriced strollers, kidney stones and etc. Learn from her mistakes.
Outdoor Gear Lab: This site is dedicated to providing you with the best outdoor gear reviews.
Should I Start A Personal Blog
Many bloggers started a personal blog without the intention of monetizing their blog. Most of them started a blog because they enjoyed writing and wanted to share their knowledge with their readers.
Maybe they started their blog as a daily journal to help them accomplish something?
The people who have turned their blog from hoppy to passion are the ones that realized that they could make money from their blog.
They found a way to turn their personal blog into a professional blog. This means that they had to change their writing style and start focusing on content that helped their readers.
After all, it’s going to be hard to make money with a blog if all you do is write about yourself. People who land on your blog don’t care about you.
Instead, they are looking for solutions to help them solve their problems. If your blog can do that, then chances are you have a good chance of making money.
Here’s a great article that will help you answer your question about “what should I blog about?” Plus you will recieve several tips to help you understand what it takes to grow a blog.
What Kind of Blog Should I Start?
Telling you what type of blog to start is kind of like telling you to eat oatmeal for breakfast. After all, that’s pretty much what I eat every morning for breakfast.
I love eating oatmeal with fresh blueberries every morning. But just because I love eating it doesn’t mean that you’re going to love it.
This goes for blogging. Just because I love writing content in the blogging niche doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re going to love it.
I don’t know what you would enjoy writing about. I’ve started several blogs in the past thinking that I would enjoy writing about that topic, only to realize I hated it.
So you’re going to have to find out what you enjoy writing and learning more about. Because when you start a blog, you’re going to need a lot of content.
This means that you’ll be writing content on a regular basis. So make sure that you choose a niche that you don’t mind spending a lot of time in.
You’ve probably seen people make money in all kinds of niches. I’m one of those people that thinks you can make money with a coffee blog, sleep better blog or any type of blog.
Yes, some niches will make more than others. However, if you take a look around the Internet, you’ll see that there are literally millions of blogs in every niche you can think of.
So don’t waste too much trying to find the right niche. The important thing is to find something that you enjoy doing and get started providing content that your readers want.
Final Take Away:
These are the most common blogs that people start and the truth is that all bloggers started from scratch. If you’re serious about starting a blog in hopes of making money from home, then you just need to jump in with both feet and do it.
Just make sure that you choose a smart blog name that actually grows with you. This way if you do find yourself changing directions with your blog, your name won’t hinder you.
Imagine where you will be a year from now if you just keep putting one foot in front of the other.
I have no doubt that you will be able to create a successful blog as long as you don’t listen to those overnight success stories.
The truth is that it takes time to blog for profit that actually makes a difference. Keep your head down and keep working towards your goals.
One day, you’ll look back and see the amazing online empire you created.

Nature is changing
Sorry to hear that, we went through a week of rain. Now it’s hot and humid. But I don’t mind it, I prefer the heat over the cold.
Great post, Susan.
Personally, I’m not a fan of personal blog because it’s harder to monetize, especially when you are just coming up and nobody knows you.
From your analysis, I will say I’m a professional blogger. I’m in this for the money and influence.
Thanks for sharing.
