Hello Welcome to My Blog Susan Velez
I started this blog to teach non-techy bloggers how to learn the techie aspects of using WordPress so they can. I know how challenging it can be to get started with WordPress.
There’s so many things to do, what plugins should I use, which themes do you recommend? How do I install analytics?
I’m here to help you learn the basics of WordPress so you won’t have to get stuck with all the techie stuff. I share my experience and knowledge I’ve gained from my WordPress freelancing business in hopes of helping you learn the basics of WordPress.
Along the way, I’ll help you learn how to monetize your passion so you can make money with your blog and create the lifestyle you desire.
I also use my blog as an outlet to document my experiences and strategies for growing my online business. If you are getting started with a self-hosted WordPress blog, you will find my blog posts helpful and actionable.

My main goal is to help fellow entrepreneurs and bloggers grow their WordPress blog so they can use it to make an income and change their lives…even if you’re a non-techie blogger.
Why Listen and Watch My WordPress Tutorials?
I know there are a ton of resources available online that will teach you how to use WordPress. And I really appreciate you stopping by and visiting my WordPress blog.
I have been a WordPress freelancer for over 2 years. I currently manage and maintain over 22 WordPress websites, as well as setup and design websites for clients while working from home. (I’m not a designer by no means, but I have access to some tools that make it easy for me to offer these services to my clients). Don’t worry, I will be sharing some of the WordPress tools I use on this site.
I have over 8 years of experience working with WordPress and I have a lot of knowledge to share with you. So join me on my journey with this blog.
WordPress didn’t come easy to me…
In fact, when I started my first WordPress site, it took me well over 6 hours to set it up.
I would’ve quit if I hadn’t promised a paying customer that I would setup their site for them. (I bit off more than I could chew)
My second site took me a little over 4 hours to set up, so I really didn’t learn a lot from my first experience.
This experience made me realize that, if I ever truly wanted to learn how to use WordPress, I would have to learn. From that point on, I got my hands on anything that would show me how to use this powerful platform.
To this day, I am still a student and constantly learning. Since I am a full-time freelancer, there’s no way around it.
With all my free time :). I figured, why not set up this blog and share my WordPress knowledge with you and help you get started with it. Who knows where this journey will take you and I, but I’m excited about it.
I don’t claim to know everything, and I am NOT ashamed to tell you that I don’t know. The great thing is that you don’t have to know everything about WordPress to get started with it.
So use this WordPress blog as a learning platform, ask questions along the way…don’t be shy.
I am NOT a PHP developer or a website designer. If you’re looking for ways to build your own theme or plugins, you won’t find them here.
My goal is to help you grow and learn WordPress even if you have never used it before. Many people have learned how to utilize the Internet and create the lifestyle of their dreams…isn’t it time we did that?
Who Is This Site For?
It’s for non-techie bloggers who understand that hiring a PHP developer or designer can cost hundreds or even thousands.
They don’t have the money to pay someone to get started online. This person doesn’t mind hard work and will do anything to succeed, regardless of roadblocks. You also understand that this is a business and it does require some money to run a business, so you can’t always do everything for free.
Anyone who follows this site will use WordPress as their platform of choice… in hopes of creating the lifestyle of their dreams.
They will work hard on their blog without making excuses. Believe me, we all can make excuses about why we can’t do this or that. But the only way we succeed is if we keep pushing forward to our goals.
If this sounds like you, then you are definitely in the right place. If you are looking for overnight riches…then this blog is not for you.
It’s going to take time, work and dedication to build up this business. This is a very brand new blog and I am just getting started, so follow along and lets build a successful future together.
Still not sure if this is the right site for you?
I understand, with so much different information available online it’s hard to know who to follow. I’ve been in your shoes before. My first WordPress site took me over 8 hours to setup for a client.
My goal is to help make it easier for you to get your online journey easier. Whether you’re trying to make money with affiliate marketing, build a freelance business or just find your way around WordPress.
I want to make it easier for you. Do NOT believe for a minute that we can’t do what guys do. That’s what people used to tell me when I first started.
They always said, you’re not a guy therefore, you’re not techie enough to learn WordPress.
Who’s Susan Velez
On a personal note, I am a regular person just like you. Hard work has been ingrained in me and it’s who I am. I guess you could say I acquired these traits in while I was in the military? (who knows)
I’m the only one in my family that has followed the entrepreneur route. Everyone says I am crazy and I should just get a regular 9-5 job to pay the bills.
I’ve had several ups and downs in life before I became a full-time WordPress freelancer.
Some of my closest friends would say that I am obsessive. When I start something, I seem to get tunnel vision and continue towards my goals. (I am not sure if that is a good thing)
When I’m not sitting in front of my Mac ( I switched to a Mac about a month ago) you can usually find me at the gym. Or outside running on the local track.
Running helps me clear my thoughts. I used to be a lot better at it when I was younger, but I still enjoy it. NOT that I’m that old 🙂
Not only that, but when I sit in front of the computer for long periods of time, my neck and back start to hurt. Guess that’s one of the downsides of doing what I love.
Staying in shape is extremely important to me. I always pay attention to the food I eat and try to exercise everyday.
My weakness is hamburgers. It’s hard to turn down a great hamburger.
Everything I’ve learned about WordPress, I’ve taught myself through trial and error. I started with WordPress in 2005…(it took me over 6 hours setup the site) Actually, I setup the site up for a friend.
That experience was so exhausting, it took me a while to setup my first WordPress blog.
I haven’t had a typical 9-5 job in over 10 years. I have failed at a lot of online ventures. (why am I telling you this?)
Because I am being open and honest and don’t want you to think that I have made money online from the get go. I have a few blogs online that make me some monthly residual income…but nothing that will help me retire comfortably.
At the time of this writing, this blog hasn’t made a penny.
Let’s see, what else can I tell you? Oh, I have a 16 year old pug. She’s old and deaf, but she still has the kick in her when it’s morning time and it’s time to eat. I think eating and sleeping are her favorite things to do.
I’m cold natured, I always seem to be cold. My favorite season is Summertime. Maybe it’s because I love wearing shorts and I don’t have to worry about being cold.
A Much Needed Vacation
It has been over 6 years since I’ve been on a real vacation. My partner and her parents just spent 9 days in Disney World.
The time off was great, we really enjoyed it. The weather was great…so I thought why not share some pics with you.
Now that the trip’s over, it’s time to get back to work.
My mission is to help you learn the techie side of blogging in hopes of empowering you to start, manage and grow your own blog & create the lifestyle you desire!
I will show you that anyone can learn how to use a self-hosted blog to start their own online business. All my tutorials are geared towards beginners and some advanced techniques.
As mentioned above, this will be more than just starting a blog, I will talk about everything it takes to turn your blog into a successful blog that actually makes money. (if that’s what you want.)
However, I make it extremely easy to follow along with video and step-by-step tutorials with pictures. So if you’ve been wanting to start a blog but don’t know how to get started, bookmark I will be adding more tutorials and videos that will help you start your own blog.
