WordPress Frameworks, Parent Themes, Child themes, and themes. It can be extremely confusing to a new WordPress user.

There are several different Frameworks available on the market today.

The only one that I have experience with is the Genesis Framework, so I can’t comment on any of the others.

A Framework is nothing more but a basic albeit well-coded parent theme. The only difference between a framework and a normal theme is that the Framework will require a child theme to add custom styling.

All the changes you make to your child theme won’t be lost when you upgrade the Framework.

The Genesis Framework is coded extremely well and follows all the coding standards.

If you’re the type of person who needs to know the all the technical jargon of what a framework is, watch this.

If you purchase a regular theme from Themeforest or somewhere else online. You’ll most likely have to create a child theme.

Otherwise, all the changes you make will be lost when the developer updates the theme.

The best part is you don’t have to mess with code.

#28 Should I Add A Slider To My WordPress Blog?

Answer:

I am NOT a huge fan of using sliders on my WordPress blog. Many of my clients use them and love them.

I thought I would do a little research to find out what some other experts say. Read this post and decide whether or not if adding a slider to your blog is actually worth it.

Of course, in the end, it’s your blog.

You’ll have to decide whether or not you want to add a slider or not. If you decide to then, here’s a great plugin I use for my client’s websites.

Answer:

There are a few things that you can do to speed up your WordPress blog.

    Hi, Susan!

Great post, first of all. Sometimes beginners ask different questions about monetization, blog launching, and freelancing. I’ll forward this blog post to them because it answers a lot of blogging-related questions.

There are always certain things that we don’t know until they occur. I’ve been using WordPress self-hosted platform since 2009, and still, I don’t want some bad to happen to my installations. I’ve had troubles with the plugins and databases in the past. I can understand that it’s a mental torture, especially if you have a little bit of traffic.

I want to thank you for publishing this blog post.

    Great job.

    Hi Hassaan,

Welcome to my blog. I realize that I may not have covered all the questions that people may ask when starting with WordPress.

Although, these were a lot of the questions I asked myself when I first started with WordPress and my clients ask.

I am glad that you found these questions helpful and thanks for sharing it, I truly appreciate it.

    Have a great day 🙂

Susan, this is a great post! This has to be the most comprehensive WordPress guide I’ve come across. I could have really used something like this when I was starting out. I will be saving this to share with my readers whenever I receive questions about WordPress.

Thank you so much for mentioning me as well. You’re the best!

Hi, Susan. Wow, this is a great resource. You’ve covered just about all the questions I’ve been asked.

    A couple more…
    1. How is self-hosted WordPress different than the Paid version of WordPress? I still get to use plug-ins and I won’t have to migrate my blog.
    2. How do I get my images to appear uniform for the featured image?

There is so much here, I’ll have to bookmark it so I can watch some of your tutorials.

    Hey SUsan,

    Great post.

#3 is the thing I got answered early on because I didn’t have money for my own se;f-hosted site and didn’t see a problem going with a .org for WordPress. Big mistake. I didn’t control anything and my old old old site was shut down. That day I made the decision to pony up the money and get hosting and my own domain. Best decision ever.

For all of those that think WordPress.org or even blogger is the better way, you’re sadly mistaken. You need to invest in your own online property. It’s worth it — and people/readers/customers take you more seriously.

    Hi Andrew,

I am glad that everything worked out for you. You’re right, if we’re serious about building a business, we have to invest some money.

The great thing is that it’s not as much as we think.

Thanks for taking the time to stop by, have a great day 🙂
