Chances are you started your blog because you read a blog income report online that talks about how easy it is to earn money online. This post is going to walk you through on how to earn money with your blog.
While it is possible to turn your blog from hobby to a profitable online venture. There are some things that you need to know if you want to succeed.
Why Do You Want to Blog?
First and foremost before you can even think about making money online, it’s important to answer the question of why you want to start a blog in the first place?
Is it because you see so many people making money online?
We see them all the time, those income reports that promise us that we can quickly make six-figures if you start a blog. What they don’t tell you is all the hard work that goes into building a successful blog.
Now I am not here to rain on your parade or discourage you from starting a blog. Heck, I want you to start a blog because I truly believe that working hard to create passive income streams is totally worth it. I’ve even created a step-by-step tutorial to help you get your blog started.
What I Want You to Realize
It is possible to build a successful blog, but it isn’t going to happen overnight. I know that most of the income reports online make it sound like it can happen overnight, but that’s not the norm.
Ask most successful bloggers and they will tell you that it took them years before they were able to turn their blog into a successful blog. Now before you get discouraged and throw in the towel.
I want you to know that it may not take you that long. It depends on several things and I’ll cover that in a minute. I just want you to be prepared to keep blogging if you don’t see success in the first 1-2 years.
How to Earn Money Online at Home With Your Blog
So then what does it really take to learn how to earn money online at home with your blog? Personally, there are only a few steps that it takes to turn your blog into a profitable venture.
If you follow these steps, I have no doubt that you will succeed. So let’s go over what these steps are. Then at the end, I’ll have some things that you can do to stay motivated when you’re NOT seeing the success you want as quickly as you want.
Step 1: Choose A Profitable Niche
First and foremost, it all boils down to the niche that you choose. Many people will say that you can make money in virtually all niches.
However, some niches have more potential than others. Let’s look at some of the niches that are known money makers.
- How to Make Money
- Personal Finance
- Health and Fitness
- Food
- Beauty and Fashion
- Lifestyle
There are several other blog topics that you can write about that will eventually earn you money. In fact, here’s a great article that will help you understand how to find the right blog niche.
If you’re completely new to blogging, the important thing to remember is to find something that is proven to work. There’s no reason to try to re-invent the wheel.

What About Competition
I know what you’re thinking, there’s just too much competition in those niches. You’d rather start a blog that has less competition and more potential for you to succeed in like crab lice. (not sure if that’s really a niche or not)
Sure you might be able to start and dominate the Google searches in a weird little niche like that. But what you need to ask yourself is if there’s really a way to monetize your blog.
You don’t want to put in all the hard work at the front only to realize that there is no potential to monetize.
Are people willing to spend money in that niche? If not then it doesn’t matter what you do, chances are you’ll never learn how to earn money online at home with your blog.
Competition Isn’t Bad
With over 2 million blog posts written per day, you still have a chance to claim a small piece of the Internet pie. It’s not going to be easy, but I’ll break it down so you’ll understand what you need to do.
But before we get into what it takes, let’s first get the fear of competition out of your head.
Yes, there are thousands of bloggers in the various popular niches I mentioned above. Here are a just a few of them.
Michelle Gardner Her blog is in the personal finance niche. At the time of this writing, she’s been blogging for more than 6 years.
By Regina This is a blog in the how to make money niche. You’ll get tips, advice, and resources to using the human approach to grow your blog.
I could go on and on with different bloggers in various niches, but you get the point.
There’s Still Room for You
The point I am trying to make is that even though these bloggers have created a successful blog in their niche. There’s still room for you to create one.
You need to remember that you’re going to attract your own audience. As your blog starts to grow, people who vibe with your voice and still will gravitate towards you.
So don’t believe for a second that you don’t have a chance to create a successful blog. It’s never too late to get started with your own blog. If you’ve been wanting to start one, then now’s the time to get started here.
What Does It Take to Create A Successful Blog?
The most important thing that it takes to learn how to create a successful blog is consistency. Now, I know that you’ll probably say that it takes a responsive email list.
Yes, that’s true, earning money from your blog is going to require you to build a responsive email list. But before we get into the email list building portion, I want to focus on consistency.
Because I truly believe that without the willingness to consist on a regular basis, you’ll never be able to build your email list.
Step 2: Being Consistent With Your Blogging Efforts
Consistency is nothing more than taking one step forward each and every day and doing something to help you move your business forward. It may not seem difficult, but after a while, when you’re NOT getting the results you want it can become difficult.
It’s tough working on a blog day in day out when you’re not getting the results you want. Many people find themselves throwing in the towel because they figure what the hell, this isn’t working anyway.
How do I know this?
Because this isn’t my first blog. I’ve started several in the past and when I didn’t see the results I wanted as quickly as I had hoped, I quit blogging.
Now it’s easy to wonder where I would be today, had I not called it quits before I saw success.
Whatever you do, keep taking those small steps forward even if it doesn’t seem like you’re getting anywhere. Because you are making every day as long as you don’t quit.
Unfortunately, I can’t tell you how long it’s going to take you to create a successful blog. Everyone has their own path to take towards success.
I can tell you that as long as you don’t quit, you have a very good chance of creating a successful blog.
Step 3: Write Amazing Helpful Content
If you truly want to create a successful blog, you’re going to have to learn how to create amazing and helpful content for your readers.
Think about it like this. When you are having trouble with something, you most likely go to the Internet and type in “how to do so and so.”
You’ll be shown thousands of results with sites that promise to help you solve your problem. The site that is able to help you solve your problem is the site that you’ll probably visit the next time you need help with something.
You want to be that person who is able to help your target audience with their problems. If your site can do that, chances are you won’t have problems building your loyal following.
So whatever you do, make sure that your blog posts solve someone’s problem.
Create a Blogging Schedule
One of the best things that I have done for my blog is creating a blogging schedule that I maintain for my blog. I currently post new content 3x per week on this blog.
Don’t feel like you have to post content 3x per week. If you’re completely new I recommend posting at least 2x a week. This will help you build up a library of useful articles that your audience will love.
Regardless of how many times you decide to post content. The important thing is to maintain the schedule.
Once you start to get visitors, they will know when they can expect to get new articles for you.
Batch Your Content
I love writing content for my blog. But I am not going to lie, if it wasn’t for the fact that I batch my content, I am not sure if I would be able to post content 3x per week.
At the time of this writing, I have enough content to publish for the next month and a half. Just by staying ahead of my content, I am able to focus on other aspects of my blog like promotion.
Remember, it doesn’t matter how great your content is if no one is seeing it.
Step 4: Traffic, Traffic, Traffic
It doesn’t matter how great your content is. If no one is seeing your content, then you’ll never be able to create a profitable blog. You need to focus on the promotional part of your blog.
This is why you’ve heard so many bloggers say that you should implement the 80/20 rule. 80% promotion and 20% content creation.
While you don’t necessarily need to do the 80/20 rule, you do need to make sure that you’re constantly promoting your content. Otherwise, you’re going to get burnt out from just creating content and NOT making any money or seeing any progress.
How Do I Get Traffic?
You’re probably thinking, how the heck do I get traffic? I’ve never promoted anything in my entire life. Trust me, I know where you’re coming from.
When I started my blogging venture, I had no clue how to promote my blog. Today, social media makes it so much easier to get started driving traffic to your blog.
Social media still comes with a learning curve, but if used correctly, it can help you grow your blog quickly.
Start With Pinterest
When I started this blog, I was trying to grow my Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest platforms. It wasn’t until about a year later than I realized it was too much.
I was getting nowhere fast. If you want to see success quickly, focus on one platform and master that one. I suggest starting with Pinterest. It definitely has the potential to grow a blog quickly.
There’s still a lot to learn about using Pinterest to grow your blog. If you’ve never used the platform before then I suggest investing in the Pinning Perfect course.
This is the same course that I purchased when I got started on Pinterest for my blog. It cut my learning curve in half and I didn’t have to spend hours trying to find information online for free.
Once you have the basics down then I suggest that you pick up this eBook. Since I’ve been following the manual pinning techniques taught in the course, I have been noticing a huge improvement in my traffic. As a matter of fact, this is the first month that I’ll be passing the 7,000 pageviews mark.
That may not seem like a lot when other bloggers are getting 100,000 pageviews per month. But the truth is that if you’re starting from zero, it’s going to take you some time to reach your first 100,000 pageviews.
If you start with Pinterest right away and don’t make the same mistakes I made, hopefully, you’ll get to your first 100,000 pageviews before I did.

Step 4: Grow Your Email List
Now that you’re writing amazing content that helps solve problems. You’re also working hard on learning how to use Pinterest for business, it’s time to focus on email list building.
There are tons of different autoresponder services you can start with such as:
I personally use GetResponse, but if you’re working on a shoestring budget, then start with MailerLite. You can build your first 1,000 subscribers for absolutely free.
There’s no reason to spend money on learning how to grow your email list. I wish I would’ve known about MailerLite when I started building my email list.
Create Your Lead Magnet
A lead magnet is something that you will give away for free to your visitors. You’ll want to make sure that it’s related to the article they are reading.
This will hopefully increase your chances of them giving you their email to download the freebie.
What Kind of Lead Magnet Do I Create?
There are virtually all types of lead magnets you can create. Whether it’s a free course, downloadable freebie or a printable. You’re going to have to keep testing different lead magnets to see which ones have the best conversions.
Chances are you’re going to have several different lead magnets on your blog. I just started creating printables for my blog to see how they convert and I can say that I have been having good luck with them.
It does take time to learn how to create printables if you’ve never created them before.
Creating a Resource Library
One of the things that I have found extremely helpful for my lead magnets is creating a library resource to put my lead magnets in. This gives you the ability to test out different lead magnets and see which converts the best.
Once you create a lead magnet, you put it inside of your resource library. Then when someone signs up for your lead magnet, you send them your secret password.
It’s not hard to create a resource library on WordPress, and the best part is that you can fill up your library with all kinds of goodies for your subscribers.

Step 5: Building A Relationship With Your List
Once you start getting visitors to your blog and people are signing up for your lead magnet. It’s time to charm their pants off by providing them helpful information that they can use.
You’re probably thinking that you’re already providing them tons of free information on your blog. Now you have to provide them more free content in your email autoresponder.
The cool thing is that if you already have a bunch of awesome content on your blog, you can just send them to a post on your blog. Yes, you can write more free content if you want.
But you’ve already written the amazing content once, so just send them back to the blog post. Eventually, as you get to know your audience and what they need, you can then start creating your own products or promoting affiliate products that help them with their problems.
Final Take Away
It takes time to develop a system that works. In fact, you’re going to have to keep tweaking different things on your blog until you get it right.
Your main goal with your blog should be to get your visitors to opt-in to your email list. Once they become a subscriber then you will want to nurture the email list so they grow to trust you.
Don’t expect to have someone buy something from you as soon as they opt-in to your email list. Sure it does happen sometimes, especially, if you have a funnel.
But chances are someone is just going to opt-in for the freebie. Once they are on your email list, you will need to prove to them that you are the person to help them.
If you can do that, most likely you will have a loyal subscriber. Eventually, as you recommend products that can help them out, they will trust you enough to buy.
Be Authentic and Genuine
The important thing to remember is that your subscribers are real people who opted in because they need help. Don’t lead them astray just in hopes of earning a quick commission.
Treat them the way that you would want to be treated. If you do that, then you will have created a profitable blog that earns you money at home.
It sounds complicated, but it’s really not. It just takes time to develop a working strategy and put all the pieces together. Remember consistency is the key.
As long as you keep putting one foot in front of the other, eventually, you’ll look back one day and see the online empire you created.

It can be challenging to choose the right niche if you’ve never had a blog. Most of us tend to want to start a blog just to chase the money.
But as we both know, the money doesn’t come right away.
It takes time to build a profitable blog.
Thanks for taking the time to stop by and comment, hope you’re doing well.
