Either way, it doesn’t matter why you started your blog. I am assuming that you want to make some money from it. I personally started my blog because I want to walk away from my WordPress freelancing business.

If this is your first time here and don’t know anything about me, you can read my story here.

As soon as you get your blog set up, you’re going to probably have a lot of questions about working with WordPress. Don’t worry, I’ve gathered a bunch of helpful articles from this blog to help you understand the basics of WordPress.

There’s Nothing Wrong With Blogging for Money

blog

We hear it all the time, you shouldn’t start a blog for the money. Between you and I, no one is going to choose to blog for a hobby. Well, there might be some people.

But those people usually realize that it’s possible to make money from their blogs. So they start trying to find ways to monetize their blogs.

If you’re a savvy entrepreneur, you know that it’s totally possible to make money with a blog. But you’re no fool, you know that it’s going to take a lot of hard work and patience.

5 Blog Post Ideas That Are Sure to Make You Money

Chances are you already know the importance of finding popular blog topics that work. But what if I told you that you could write certain blog post types that will increase your chances of earning money.

I’m not saying that they will all work. But this is what has been working for me. Now I wanted to share what type of blog posts you should be writing on your blog.

I recommend writing a few different ones and see which ones work best for you. Then come back in a few months and let me know which ones you prefer writing.

#1 How To Posts

Everyone loves how to posts. Whenever someone wants to learn how to do something, their first stop is usually Google or YouTube.

I have written tons of how to posts and I can tell you that they convert very well. If you do write a how-to post, make sure that you make it an in-depth tutorial that walks the reader from point A to point B.

Examples of how to articles:

  • How to Choose a WordPress Theme
  • How to Promote Your Blog

If your post can help them solve their problem and they see need the product or service that you recommend. There’s a very good chance that they will buy through your link.

I’ve noticed that affiliate products convert very well with how to posts. Just make sure that you’re cloaking your affiliate links before you add them to your blog.

Oh and don’t forget to add an affiliate disclaimer to your blog post. You don’t want to do anything shady and try to get a sneaky commission.

Be honest and genuine with your readers. If they resonate with you and you’ve helped them with their problem, some of them will repay you by buying through your link.

#2 Product Reviews

As a blogger, you’re going to invest in several products and services that you use on a daily basis to grow your blog. If you invest money in a product or service that you love and you know will help your readers.

Be sure to take the time to write a review for it. There are tons of products and services that can help us grow our blog. But it’s impossible to know which products will actually be helpful.

Your readers would love to know what works for you and why you love that product. Don’t feel like you are pushing that product or service on your readers.

Not everyone is going to buy based on your review. However, if they were looking for information on whether or not that is or not worth their money, your product review may be able to help them make a buying decision.

Just make sure that you’re being totally honest. Don’t lie or say it’s a great product just in hopes of making a quick commission.

Examples of Product Review Articles:

  • Social Warfare Review
  • Advanced Ads Review

You can write these types of reviews on pretty much anything even if you’re not in the blogging niche.

#3 Step-By-Step Tutorials

If you’ve been following my blog, you know that I am huge on creating step-by-step tutorials. I love showing people how to do something from start to finish.

The reason I love doing this is that I know that if you’ve never done something sometimes it’s confusing. So my tutorials take people step by step how to accomplish something.

You’ll find that many people who are thinking about buying a product want to see how it works. If you can show people how and why the product will benefit them, chances are you’ll make some money.

I know that whenever I am thinking about buying a product, I always search Google to see if that product is hard to use. It doesn’t mean that I always buy the product, but you can bet that many times the tutorial will help me make a buying decision.

The easiest way to write these articles is to make sure that you have access to the product. Include everything that you think the buyer will want to know about the product.

If you can answer all the buyers’ questions in your tutorial, you’ll have a better chance of making a sale.

Examples of Step-by-Step Articles:

  • How to Start A Blog On SiteGround Step by Step
  • Backup Buddy Tutorial – Restore Your Website In 5 Minutes

#4 Case Studies and Journey Reports

Everyone loves reading case studies to see if something works. I am not sure if they just want to see whether or not you failed with a method.

We all know that what works for one blog, may not necessarily work for your blog. But I guess people just want to know if it’s actually worth trying something before they test things out.

If you can write a case study and share your success or failure with your readers, chances are you people will be tempted to try what you did.

Especially, if you can prove that something worked really well for you. People are more likely to spend money on something that works for something else instead of trailblazing and trying things for themselves.

The cool thing is that it doesn’t take a lot to create a case study. You will need to spend some time and effort testing things out. Make sure that you take plenty of screenshots to help people see why something did or didn’t work.

Don’t forget to include your affiliate links to the products and services that you used during your case study.

Examples of Case Study Posts:

  • [Case Study] How to Write A Series for Your Blog and My Results
  • My Pinterest Is Not Working Back to The Drawing Board

#5 Personal Journey Posts

There are bloggers who made a name for themselves by sharing everything that they did to reach their success. One of the bloggers that come to mind is Pat Flynn.

These bloggers share everything they do. People are attracted to these bloggers because they share everything that they do. It’s kind of like looking at their business plan and taking a sneak peek at what they are doing to grow their business.

This gives people the chance to see first hand what works and what doesn’t. A lot of people want to be led, especially, since there are so many different online scams.

When you open your business and share what’s working. People are going to be attracted to you and when you gain their trust, they will be more likely to spend money on your products and services.

Now you can decide how much free content you want to give away. Don’t feel like you need to reveal everything. You can reveal 95% of the things you do and then create products and courses and sell the rest of the 5% of your business secrets.

Either way, it’s your blog and you can decide how much you free content you want to share.

Examples of Personal Journey Posts:

  • How to Grow A Blog What I’m Focusing On My Second Year
  • Grow Your Blog Traffic With Pinterest What You Need to Know

Many people don’t like to write these types of blog posts because they feel like they are giving away everything. The truth is that almost everything can be found online.

Plus like I said, you don’t have to give away all your secrets. I suggest that you don’t, especially, if you’re trying to build a business.

My Favorite Blog Post Type to Write

Every blogger has their favorite post type they love writing. Me, I love writing my case studies and my how-to tutorials. All you have to do is spend some time in my blog archives and you’ll notice that I’ve written several how-to tutorials.

I guess I like writing them because I know that whenever I am trying to solve a problem, I always turn to the Internet for a post that helps me accomplish what I am having problems with.

We’re all working hard to build our blogs into a profitable business. This doesn’t mean that you can’t write blog posts that you love writing.

In fact, I recommend that you write some blog posts that you love writing. This will help you avoid blogger burnout by just writing content that you think you need to write.

You’re going to realize that growing a blog is going to take a lot of work at the beginning. Here’s a great podcast you can listen to while you’re working hard on your blog and not getting the results you want.

Final Take Away

There are literally several ways to make money with your blog. It does take time and it’s not going to happen overnight. But if you start implementing any of these blog post ideas, I have no doubt that you will make some sales.

Not all of these blog post ideas will make you money. Plus you’re going to need to write more than one.

Test them out and see which one you actually enjoy writing and which one makes you money. Then be sure to come back and let me know which blog post ideas actually make you money and which ones you prefer writing.

“How to” posts are fish in a barrel easy for making money Susan. Like, we want to know how to do something, read an inspired post, and if you link to some offer, folks will buy it, in increasing numbers as you keep promoting the post. In truth; we see How To solutions to pressing problems. Offer a free solution through your post and link to a premium solution, and you will be good to go.

On a side note I feel you nudged me to write a blog post: “How to do blogger outreach right.” Or something similar. Blitzing my eBook so this can be a smart lead in, and will be easy to write because I have a nice orderly outline in mind.

    Thanks buddy.

    Hi Susan,

Thanks for putting this together for us. I think it’s always good to mix things up to keep our visitors interested and going back for more. ๐Ÿ™‚

My favorite type of posts to write are how-to tutorials, personal journey and product reviews. I haven’t done a case study but it’s on my list of things to do.

Awesome list Susan! Passing this along. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for sharing these awesome tips!

I’ve personally received very nice results with doing product reviews. While tutorials and instructing videos still work, they may not bring targeted traffic like what product reviews bring in.

Trageted visitors are visiting these product review article because they’re one step closer of buying the product. And they find an appealing discount, they will just go ahead and buy it using my link.

And it becomes even better with articles like “product discount”. It is still work and brings nice side income. But you’ve to be careful with that to offer a real discount on the table. Many others are talking discounts but not even having any discounts to offer!!

    Thanks again!
That was an awesome read this morning..

    Hi Ryan,

I love writing how-to posts but am experimenting with other types of posts as well.

Why am I not surprised that you don’t already have an eBook on it?

Thanks for taking the time to stop by and comment.

    Have a great day ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hey Cori,

Like you, I love writing about my personal journey. After all, it helps your readers see what you’re doing and what’s working.

I’ve been mixing it up with different types of content to see what works best.

It’s always an experiment and constantly testing things.

Thanks for taking the time to stop by and comment.

    Have a great day ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hi Karim,

I like to do a combination of everything, but you’re right. When I am ready to buy I am always looking for both reviews and how to tutorials.

Great tips for writing a product discount post. I don’t plan on writing one, but I’ll definitely keep that in mind.

Thanks for taking the time to stop by and comment.

    Have a great day ๐Ÿ™‚

    Susan
