After all, it’s tough when the only income your family earns is the type that requires you to trade hours for it. You can’t even begin to imagine what it will be like when you are able to make money while you’re sleeping.
Yes, it’s possible to learn how to make money with a blog. But it’s NOT as easy as everyone says it is.
It’s Not Rocket Science
The cool thing is learning how to make money from a blog isn’t rocket science. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have a college education.
Of course the type of blog you start will make a huge difference. Some will make money faster than others, while other niches will take a little longer.
But the truth is that anyone can make money blogging.
Even if you’ve been an employee your entire life, you can still learn how to make money online. In fact, I am going to share what it actually takes to make money with your blog.
I’ll even share some of the best ways to start monetizing your blog. If you’ve ever wondered “how do I make money with a blog,” you’ll know some of the ways that many bloggers are making money online.
How Do Bloggers Make Money Online?
There are several ways that bloggers make money. I won’t be covering them all, but I am going to share the ones that I believe are a great way for beginners to start making money with their blogs.
Plus I’ll also share the monetization stages of a blog. This will help you understand when is the right time to start adding these types of monetization models to your blog.
Some of the ones that I will be sharing will be possible to start using as soon as you launch your blog. However, don’t expect to make a lot of money right out of the gate.
How to Make Money With A Blog for Beginners
There’s nothing wrong with monetizing your blog out of the gate as soon as you hit publish. Just remember, that you won’t make money overnight.
If you visit any Facebook Groups then you know that a lot of people today are learning how to get started blogging for money. Personally, I think that people want more control over their income.
After all, we’ve all read those income reports that talk about how much so and so makes. One of the great things that I love about blogging is that there’s no limit to the amount you can make.
As long as you’re willing to give it the necessary time and keep working towards your goals, I have no doubt that you’ll start seeing results. Even if you’re just starting from day one, you still want to make sure that your blog is set up properly to start earning when you do get traffic.
These monetization models will eventually help you learn how to make money with your blog.
You might also be able to make money faster if you take the time to find the most profitable niches. The downside is that there will be a lot more competition.
#1 Email Marketing
We hear it all the time, the money is in the list. I tend to say that the money is in the relationship that you build with your list.
If you focus on growing your email list and providing them with helpful content. Eventually, they will buy the products that you recommend.
Eventually, you’ll be able to create your own products and have customers that will buy your products and services. Just remember, it takes time to build trust with your readers.
So don’t expect to start building an email list today and make money tomorrow. Instead, focus on building your email list and then building the relationship with your list.
You don’t always have to offer free content to your email list. The important thing to remember is that whenever you do recommend products and services to your email list that you are doing it to help them,
Don’t recommend products that won’t help them. Sure you might make some commissions, but you’ll lose the trust that you’ve started building with your list.
Once that trust is lost, then it will be hard to get it back.

#2 Google Adsense
Most new bloggers who want to monetize their blogs with ads will usually start with Google Adsense. Once you sign up with Google Adsense, you can place some code on your blog. This will display ads on your blog that are related to your content.
Whenever someone clicks on one of the ads on your site, you’ll get a certain cut of the ad revenue. From my personal experience, it does take quite a bit of traffic if you want to make any real money by displaying ads on your blog.
How Much Money Can I Make With Ads?
It all depends on how much traffic you are able to generate and how much people are willing to click on your ads. (Remember, you never want to click on your own ads, otherwise, Google will penalize you for it.)
Many bloggers have learned how to use Google Adsense to monetize their blogs. If you really want to make money with Google Adsense, you’re going to have tested and tweak different ad placements, colors and work on driving traffic to your blog.

Should I Add Ads to My Blog?
Deciding whether to add ads to your blog can be confusing. Some people say that you shouldn’t monetize your blog with ads, while others say that it’s okay.
It all boils down to what you want to do. I personally think there’s nothing wrong to start with ads if you want to earn passive income with your blog.
If you feel like they are being intrusive to your readers, you can always remove them from your blog. Once your blog starts getting some decent traffic, there’s absolutely nothing wrong to see if ads will work for your niche.
#3 Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing is a performance-based income model. As a blogger, you have the opportunity to make money from the products and services that you recommend to your readers.
You can do this by including links to products and services in your blog posts. If someone clicks on your unique link and actually buys the product, you’ll receive a cut of the cost.
As an affiliate marketer, it’s so easy to want to sign up to promote several different products. However, if you really want to succeed with affiliate marketing, make sure that you:
Promote products that are relevant to your niche.
Only promote products that you have used and would actually recommend.
Follow the FTC guidelines and create an affiliate disclaimer on your blog. (here’s how to add one to your blog)
How to Get Started With Affiliate Marketing?
I suggest that you start with some of the most popular affiliate programs such as:
- Amazon
- ShareASale
- ClickBank
Once you become familiar with how affiliate marketing works. You can join some of the smaller networks. You can also start reaching out to other bloggers and request to become an affiliate for their products and services.

If you’re currently taking a blogging course and you getting some amazing value from it. There’s absolutely no reason to promote it as an affiliate.
After all, people will want to hear about your success with your problem, For instance, I started the Elite Blog Academy about 3 months after starting this blog.
If you’ve never built a business from a blog, this course will show you exactly what it takes to grow it quickly. It is not open all the time, but you can sign up for the Free 12-day Blog Bootcamp course.
#4 Courses and/or Services
Chances are you’ve started a blog in something that you’re passionate about and have a lot of knowledge in. If so, then you can create an exclusive learning opportunity by creating a paid online course.
You can then decide whether you want to use Digital Access pass to set up a membership site to deliver your paid course. Of course, you can also use third-party platforms like Teachable and Thinkific to deliver your course,
If you don’t want to create a paid product, you can start by offering your product for free. If you do this, just make sure that you add affiliate links to your free course so you can earn a commission whenever someone buys anything you recommend.
Eventually, you can turn that free course into a paid course.
How Much Money Can You Make With Your Own Courses and Services?
The amount of money you can make will vary. It all depends on how many people are actually willing to purchase your course. Many bloggers will tell you that even though they use several different monetization models with their blog, they make the most money from their own courses.
#5 Consulting
Consulting has become a popular way to monetize a blog. This is where you offer your services to your readers who need help with a specific area.
For example: Let’s say that you’re a Pinterest expert. You would offer your services for say $75 for one hour and you would offer advice and tips on how they could improve their Pinterest strategy for better results.
Let’s look at some real-life examples to help you brainstorm some ideas.
#6 eBooks
Writing eBooks is so easy for any blogger, regardless of your blogging niche. There are so many opportunities available for self-publishers.
Once you get your eBook written you can sell it directly from your blog or you can sell your book on Amazon. It’s so easy to sell on Amazon without any technical issues, in fact, you can check out the eBooks that I sell on Amazon.
How much money can you make from selling eBooks? Again it all depends on how many people are willing to pay for your eBooks. Darren Rowse of ProBlogger was able to earn $72,000 in one week after launching his first eBook.
If you are a new blogger, chances are you won’t be able to make that much with your first eBook. However, once you write the eBook, you’ll always have something that you can offer your readers when they visit your blog.
This will add a passive income stream to your blog, which is nothing but good news.
Which One Should You Start With?
As a new blogger, the most important thing to focus on is building your email list. It takes time to build an email list and build trust with your readers.
However, these people have shown enough interest in your blog by giving you their email address. As you continue to work on building that relationship, these are your future customers.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong to implement any of the monetization models above as soon as you launch your blog. Just remember, it is going to take time to see a return on your efforts.
Don’t Focus On The Money
I know that you started your job with the hopes of earning passive income from your blog. In fact, I started this blog because my goal is to walk away from my WordPress freelancing business.
But the truth is that you’re going to have to work hard on building trust with your readers before they will buy anything from your blog.
You do this by providing valuable content that helps them solve problems. Unfortunately, it takes time to grow a blog. Think of it as a 3 stage process to grow a blog. (I’ll discuss this in a blog post later)
Treat Your Blog Like A Business
If you want to eventually make money with your blog, you’re going to have to treat it like a business. This means that you’re going to have to work on your blog every day.
You can’t expect your blog to grow if you work on it whenever you want. Do something each and every day that helps you grow your blog.
The great thing is that you don’t have to spend 8 hours a day on your blog. If you have an hour or two per day, you will eventually grow your blog into the online empire you’re dreaming of.
Final Take Away
Don’t be afraid to monetize your blog. If you’re providing value to your readers, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with making money from your blog.
Hopefully, this answered your question “how do you make money with a blog.”
The important thing to remember is that it does take time to earn money with a blog. But as long as you are consistent with your daily blogging tasks, you can grow it into a profitable venture.
