From Freelancer to Entrepreneur Finding My Passion and Overcoming Failure

September 15, 2017 by Susan Velez

Last updated on June 6th, 2020 at 05:59 am

I finally wrote my first Kindle e-book and it’s titled “From Freelancer to Entrepreneur Finding My Passion and Overcoming Failure.” If you’ve been following my blog for awhile, you know that I am currently working as a WordPress freelancer.

We've all read books that try to change our mindset about succeeding in business. I've written a new Kindle book that hopefully provides inspiration and motivation on pursuing your goals even when you don't see success right away.

However, I am making the transition from freelancer to entrepreneur. It’s NOT my first run at becoming an entrepreneur, I’ve actually been on the journey for years.

It hasn’t always been glamorous. In fact, sometimes it’s just been downright hard. However, I don’t regret any part of my journey, that’s what it took me to finally find my passion.

From Freelancer To Entrepreneur Kindle Book

The book didn’t take as long to write as expected. I just sat down and wrote my life story of how I got started as an entrepreneur.

As I look back and proofread the story, I can’t believe everything that I went through. I didn’t start out with WordPress, in fact, I started out with several other entrepreneurial ventures.

Eventually, I found my way to WordPress and took a couple of twists and turns before getting the courage to become a freelancer. You can read how I got started with WordPress.

Moving From Freelancer to Entrepreneur

After spending several years striving to reach my goal, you might be wondering why I am now moving to an entrepreneur who blogs full time and makes income through passive income streams.

Buy My Book Here

Well, I cover that in my book. But between you and I, there’s only so much work I can take on before getting burnt out. In fact, as a freelancer, there’s only so much work I can take on before having to outsource.

I’ve realized that freelancing isn’t the path that I want to take. I want to be able to remove myself from the equation in order to make more money.

That’s why I’m on another entrepreneurial journey again.

Man, do we ever stop chasing dreams? Or is that always a part of life?

What You’ll Find in My Book

The complete down and dirty of how I left the post office to pursue my very first entrepreneur venture. You’ll also read about the failures I encountered (which were several)

Plus, how I’ve finally managed to find my passion to pursue what I truly love. I’ve opened up my heart in the book, which wasn’t very easy for me to do.

In the past, I tried to hide my failures. I guess I was ashamed of failing and thought it was best if I didn’t talk about it.

Today, I’m NOT ashamed to say that I’ve failed. I guess I’d rather go down trying to achieve something great than to stay comfortable and never reach for the stars.

The Goal 0f My Book

I wrote the book to show you my failures and hopefully, inspire you to take some action to start chasing your dreams. If you’ve ever wanted to start a blog then now’s the day.

Chasing your dreams won’t be easy. You won’t have overnight success, I don’t care how many of those overnight success stories you’ve read. That just isn’t the norm.

We all have to take our own journeys to take and some of us it just takes longer than others.

Own Your Journey

As you know, I have been on my blogging journey for almost a year now. I can’t believe that next month, this blog will be a year old. Man time flies.

I’ve started several blogs in the past, but this blog is a keeper. It’s the only blog that I’ve taken this seriously.

In the past, I started blogs in niches that I didn’t care or know anything about. I was just chasing the money.

Guess that’s why I failed so much.

Regardless of where you are in your blogging journey, you can have success. I truly believe that the only way that we fail is when we throw in the towel and quit chasing our dreams.

Buy My New Kindle Book

My book went live yesterday, it was the first book that I published on Amazon. I made a bunch of mistakes, but hey that’s how we live and learn.

However, the book is now live and ready for you to buy. You can pick up your copy here.

I’ll be adding more books to my Amazon library, and when I do, I’ll be sure to add them to my blog. I really enjoyed the process and hopefully, the second Kindle book I write. I won’t make as many mistakes as I did with my first one.

Final Take Away

Writing a Kindle ebook is not as hard as I thought it would be. Plus, it can be a great way to monetize your blog. If you haven’t created your first book, then maybe it’s time that you sit down and write one.

Like anything else, you’ll probably be a little nervous with the first one you write. (I know I was) Just feel the fear and do it anyway.

    Hey Ssan,

Congrats on publishing your first kindle book. I know it will be one of many.

That’s the thing about entrepreneurship. It really takes time and effort and there will be failures, but those failures are the best learning experiences. I’ve made countless mistakes and had failures .. but I think I’m better off now because of it.

Looking forward to hearing more of your journey to where you are today.

    Hi Andrew,

It’s definitely been a struggle to find my passion and find out what works. Glad to hear that you learned from your mistakes.

As long as we learn from our mistakes, there’s nothing wrong with making them. It just takes some of us longer to learn from our mistakes ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for taking the time to stop by and comment have a great day ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hi Susan,

    Congratulations. That is wonderful.

Happy to see you diving into the Kindle game. It is fun, fulfilling and pretty dang freeing too.

I dig how you share your failures. Me too. We fear looking like a fraud sometimes, believing we need this error-free, inspired, walk on water self-image to get folks to trust us but it is by sharing mainly success/wins plus some failing too that some folks buy in to our brand, our blog and our eBooks.

I think it’s more about feeling clear aka lack of deep fear with your blog, almost like you are at peace sharing wins and losses, and knowing people will see you as a pro, regardless.

    Hi Ryan,

Thanks, I’ve been wanting to get started with Kindle for a while, but prolonged writing my ebook. I finally sat down this week and completed the entire process. I did make a couple of mistakes, but overall the process is very easy.

Yeah, I used to think that I had to hide my failures. However, you’re correct, we’re all human and we’ve all made mistakes.

Those people who haven’t made mistakes, haven’t taken any risks.

You’re the man when it comes to publishing on Kindle, I’m sure that I can learn something from you.

Thanks for taking the time to stop by and comment. I hope you have a wonderful weekend ๐Ÿ™‚

Congratulations Susan, I have so many books in my head but no time to write them. However, my passion for teaching social media and blogging is paying off (finally), so perhaps one day, I too will be in a position to write about my journey from posting to teaching.

    Hi, Susan!

Congratulations. I’m happy that you’ve taken this step. Your blog post reminded me of my first e-book attempt. Long story short is that I failed miserably, but the good part is that I learned a lot.

After four years, I went back to the Amazon KDP to try it out again. I started off working on my e-book a few days back. I have learned that staying in the process helps us get through.

You’re lucky that you’ve found your passion. A lot of people struggle to find that. Keep crushing it.

    Hi Naveen,

I’ve definitely made a lot of mistakes in my online journey. If I can help at least one person avoid the same mistakes that I’ve made, then that’s awesome.

I appreciate you taking the time to stop by and comment.

    Have a great day ๐Ÿ™‚
