I’m always on the lookout for new affiliate programs and ways to make money online. When I was browsing Shareasale, I saw this new program called Houzz. I thought I’d write a Houzz affiliate program review to help you monetize your blog if you’re in this niche.

A Look At the Interior Design Niche
I have to admit, I am not an interior designer, in fact, I suck at design. But, I’ve been watching the Property Brothers lately and a lot of those home improvement shows on HGTV and I really like them.
I’ve also realized how profitable this niche can be for blogging and affiliate marketing. If you’re new to affiliate marketing, I recommend this training to help you understand what it takes to make money online.
It’s amazing how someone can take an ugly room and make it pretty by adding some paint or some wall decor. So it got me thinking if this was a good niche for beginners.
After doing some research, I found over 50 home improvement ideas that you can literally get started in today. I’ll also be using KWFinder to uncover some profitable keywords that you can target if you’re interested in one of these sub-niches.
Here is some a small list I came up with to help you write some home improvement blog posts:
- Farmhouse Kitchen Decor: 4263 searches – 27/100 Green Score
- Stained Glass Window Hangings: 1964 searches – 29/100 Green Score
- Can You Wallpaper Over Wallpaper: 1600 searches – 22/100 Green Score
- Double Bed with Storage: 12,108 searches – 29/100 Green Score
- I Shaped Bunk Beds: 8067 searches – 26/100 Green Score
You could literally plug any of those 50 home improvement topics into KWFinder and find several keywords with low competition. This would allow you to have tons of fresh content ideas you could write about for weeks or months.
The most important thing is to make sure that you’re looking for keywords without a lot of competition. You’ll have much faster success and you won’t have to worry about wasting a bunch of time as I did with this blog.
You can sign up for FREE and use KWFinder to find 5 keywords every day. Click here to sign up for free.
Over time as your blog starts to gain authority, you would eventually get traffic from Google. Now let’s take a look at how you would monetize your blog with the Houzz decor program.

I’m going to share the exact strategy that I use to make money with this blog and my other blog with affiliate marketing. If you’d rather get started with some free training that will walk you through the entire process, you can do so here.
If you’d rather read the step-by-step process of what it takes to make money online as an affiliate, then continue reading. After you’re done, you’ll know what you need to do to make money online.
Start A Blog
If you want to make money with this program, the best way to do it is to start your own self-hosted blog. Once you get your new blog set up, you’ll want to install some free plugins and choose a theme.
Don’t worry too much about how your blog looks. As long as you’re using a responsive theme, you’ll be fine. Most beginners make the mistake of wasting too much time on the overall design.
Yes, you want a pretty site, but you can focus on the site’s appearance once it is starting to make money.
Choosing A Narrow Topic In This Niche
I’m not interested in the home design niche, but I thought I would show you how you can choose a narrow sub-niche so you can succeed faster. It’s still NOT going to be overnight results, but it will be faster than if you go too broad.
Don’t Do This
Let’s say you’re interested in lawn and garden, so you decide to start a blog and write about various products. Yes, that can work, but you better be prepared to work hard and give it a lot of time to see results.
Do This Instead
You could start a blog about landscaping stones and pavers instead. It’s still in the home improvement niche, but you’ve chosen a more narrow sub-niche inside of a larger competitive niche.
It takes time to understand how to choose a niche, but this video makes it easy. It’s definitely worth watching because the last thing you want to do is choose a topic that doesn’t get enough searches or is too competitive you’ll NEVER make money.
Write Content
Once you’ve chosen your blog’s topic, it’s time to sit down and start writing. As a content marketer, you’ll spend a lot of time writing content.
In fact, a majority of your time, in the beginning, will be to write fresh unique content for your blog. If your blog is brand new, I suggest writing at least 3 articles per week. If you can do more, then do more.
Just make sure that you’re writing high-quality articles that help your audience. The quality of your article will be more important than just pumping out any type of content.
Get into the habit of writing every day, I always write 1,000 words daily. I don’t necessarily publish a new article every day, but I do publish 3x per week on this blog and 2x per week on my second blog.
Choose a schedule that works for you and make sure that you’re constantly updating your blog with fresh unique content on a regular basis.
Don’t just write any type of content, do proper keyword research make sure that you’re optimizing it to get organic traffic.

Promote Your Content
Once you write your content, you can’t sit back and wait for Google to start sending you any traffic. It’s going to take some time before you see any organic traffic from Google.
I started my second blog on the 7th of this month and even though it’s starting to get some organic traffic from Bing, I am still not getting any traffic from Google. I’ll keep you updated on the growth of it as it starts growing.
It’s up to you to use social media and other resources to help you grow your blog. As your blog starts to gain some DA authority, it will be easier to get traffic.
But every new affiliate had to work hard to grow their blog. We all start from zero and grow our blog inch by inch and little by little.
Grow Your Email List
One of the most important things you need to focus on as an affiliate is growing your email list. Most people who come to your blog are never going to come back again.
You want to give your visitors the opportunity to sign up for your email list so they can continue hearing from you. Eventually, as these people start to trust you, they will purchase the products and services you recommend.
Rinse and Repeat
The hardest part about building an affiliate website is doing all the work for free on the front end. Unfortunately, there’s no guarantee that your blog will be a success. Heck, I can’t even tell you how long it will take for you to start earning money.
What I can tell you is that it’s going to take a lot of hard work to get your blog off the ground. Most people will give up before they get the results they want because it just takes too long.
This is why it’s so important to choose a niche that you love. It’s much easier to keep writing content for a blog that you’re actually interested in.
Whatever you do, keep writing, promoting and doing all those blogging tasks that will help you grow. One day, you’ll look back and notice the profitable digital asset that you created and now allows you to live the lifestyle you love.
Final Take Away
There are several bloggers online who make a full-time living with affiliate marketing. They all started from scratch just like you.
If they can do it, so can you. If you’re serious about building a profitable affiliate business, then follow these steps that I’ve laid out for you. Don’t forget to join this free program that will provide you with even more step-by-step tutorials.
Don’t listen to people who promise you overnight success. Unfortunately, there is no such thing, believe me, I’ve spent a lot of money in the past on those “get rich quick schemes.”
It’s not fun and will only delay your true success. Put your head down and work hard on growing your blog.
Keep doing the hard work that it takes and don’t worry about the mistakes you’re going to make. We all make them, the only difference is that some people never give up and that’s why they’re successful online.
